How the order of Macys Thanksgiving Day parade has changed in 2021
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade has finally returned after a hiatus due to the covid pandemic and it’s back with a bang. Let’s see how the order of the 2021 parade has changed from other years.
There are some safety precautions in place which have differed from previous years, these measures are all in place to keep those enjoying the parade safe.
The parade started at 9 a.m. ET so let’s get into the order of the day before it ends and we have to count down until next year.

How Macys Thanksgiving Day parade has changed
The main difference is that spectators are now allowed to line the route of the parade and watch it first-hand. Gathering together to celebrate thanksgiving and watch the floats ride by.
Thankfully the parade isn’t limited to one block or pre-taped like last years float parade. This year’s parade has changed because it is now going on the 2 1/2 mile route along the streets of Manhattan.
Another change from usual years is that children under 12 will not be allowed to participate in the parade. They are allowed to watch the parade but can’t be aboard the floats.
Marching bands from across the country are back on the lineup list as they were axed last year in attempts to reduce travel. Last year was full of local performers as New Yorkers gathered to celebrate Thanksgiving mid-pandemic.
The parade this year will have many more participants, as it has over 8,000 people involved with 24 balloons and a grand sum of 48 floats.
Macys 2021 Thanksgiving Day regulations
Parade staff and volunteers have to be vaccinated in order to take part in the event. They must all wear masks unless performing, and viewers are also advised to wear a mask whilst spectating.
The inflation of the giant balloons ceremony which takes place before the parade starts was only accessible to viewers who were vaccinated.
Cars are also not allowed on the parade route and sand-filled trucks and concrete barriers block their entry; these precautions are taken for safety measures.
Order of Macys Thanksgiving Day parade
The parade begins at 77th Street and Central Park West and it will continue south to Columbus Circle.
Some of the best places to watch the parade include ET Central Park West between West 75th to West 61st Streets. You could also head to 6th avenue between West 59th to West 38th Streets.
If you’re prepared to get to the viewing spot early then you should go to the south side of West 34th Street between Broadway and 7th Avenue. However, this is a prime spot so make sure you get there fast as there will be limited view later in the day.
