After years of releasing mostly mid-range phones, Google is stepping up with its new flagship phone: Pixel 6. Headphone jacks have become a rarity when it comes to Apple, so will the new device feature what iPhones don’t?
Pixel 6 details leaked online
Google will launch its two latest devices – Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro – on 19 October 2021. The phones follow the mid-range Pixel 5a released on 17 August 2021 and this time the brand claims it will elevate its products with a better screen, camera and build quality.
Unfortunately for Google but fortunately for customers, UK phone retailer The Carphone Warehouse accidentally listed details of the phone online, which was promptly captured via screen shot by popular leaker Evan Bless.
Notable features include several new camera settings – Motion Mode, Face Unblur and Magic Eraser – and a new processor called Tensor, which Google uses for its AI hardware.
However, the one question potential buyers are wondering is: will there be a headphone jack? Wireless buds are the trend these days, but some people still love to use the good ol’-fashioned wired headphones.

Will Pixel 6 have a headphone jack?
No, Pixel 6 won’t have a headphone jack, which is particularly surprising since both versions look large enough to support it. And it has only been two months since Google’s Pixel 5a introductory video, The Circle Comes Full Circle, hilariously parodied Apple’s sleek adverts to point out the importance of headphone jacks.
It’s not the first time the jack will be absent, however. Pixel 2, Pixel 3, Pixel 4 and Pixel 5 weren’t blessed with the extra feature but their mid-range counterparts all featured the 3.5mm element. This hints that if a Pixel 6a launches, that would be the best option for wired headphone-lovers.
Fans guess the price of Pixel 6
After the leaks, fans have taken to social media to discuss the possible prices of the upcoming phones.
One Reddditor shared an image hinting Pixel 6 would cost €649 (£550) in Germany, along with a pre-order gift of the Bose 700 headphone. If that’s the case, some will view the phone as an absolute steal.
M. Brandon Lee, from This Is Tech Today, also tweeted images of sweepstake rules stating the approximate retail value of $850 for the 6. He predicts the Pro will cost about $1,099.

No headphone jack has been disappointing news for some customers, so hopefully Google brings it back for its next release.
