How does Spotify and Apple Music’s karaoke feature work?

Earlier in summer, Spotify Karaoke rolled out to certain users, although it is expected to become available globally within the coming months. The feature allows you to connect your phone’s microphone to the app. You can then belt out your favorite tracks, while the app judges your accuracy throughout the song. You will then receive a percentage for your overall accuracy.

To access Spotify Karaoke, you’ll need to head to the lyrics box when a song plays. You can then make the lyrics full screen. If the karaoke feature is available to you, you will see a microphone in the top right-hand corner. Once the microphone is selected, Spotifywill remove the singers voiceto leave you with the instrumental in the background. You can then sing your song of choice while the app judges your melodic accuracy.

Apple Music Sing is somewhat similar to Spotify Karaoke. You’ll need to be running theiOS 16.2 to access this new feature. After selecting a song, tap the lyrics button in the bottom left corner. You should then see the microphone and stars icon (non-compatible songs won’t show this feature). Once tapped, Apple Sing is turned on.

In Apple Sing, you can adjust a song’s vocal levels so you take the lead, activating backing vocals, duet mode if there is more than one singer, or have the lyrics animated to the rhythm of the vocals.

Does Amazon Music have karaoke?

No, as of yet Amazon Music on Prime does not have a karaoke tool. The e-commerce giant turned global conglomerate has not hinted at any such feature rolling out soon. Time and again, music lovers have been hoping for features on other streaming platforms, such as Spotify Wrapped, to make it onto Amazon Music. But to not avail.

Although Amazon Music doesn’t have a karaoke tool, there are ways you can still participate in karaoke if you’re a Prime subscriber.

The Amazon Music library currently has several karaoke albums which are available to stream. If you search for ‘karaoke’ on Amazon Music, you should come across several albums and artists who create karaoke backing tracks. However, you will need to find the lyrics to the song in question. Unlike Spotify Karaoke and Apple Sing, these won’t automatically sync up the lyrics for you to sing along to.

There are other ways to karaoke with Amazon Prime
