Weight gain and obesity are linked to several critical diseases and eating healthy is crucial in losing fat and retaining a healthy weight.

‘Underrated’ vegetable can reduce weight, fatloss coach says

Women’s Fatloss Coach Aaron Burgess popular for assisting women with their weight loss journey and healthy lifestyle debunks the biggest myth about a common vegetable.

In one of his videos focusing on one of the most “underrated vegetables,” the fat loss coach explains the benefits of potatoes in losing weight – yes, you heard it right!

The popular food is incorrectly assumed to contribute to fat in the body, whereas, research shows it enables weight loss when consumed as a whole vegetable without being processed.

He says you should be eating more potatoes “if your goal is to lose fat that is not only gluten-free, it’s fat-free and pretty low (in) calorie considering the serving.”

Aaron explains potatoes are rated as a “satiating food”, meaning, they keep you full longer. His claim about the popular vegetable is also backed by research published in the National Library of Medicine in 2022.

The data from the study indicates that “reducing the energy density of the diet by incorporating potatoes or pulses improves the insulinemic response and promotes weight loss in individuals with insulin resistance.”

Eat whole potatoes for health benefits

Just because potatoes can enhance weight loss, they don’t have similar effects when not consumed correctly. The researchers included the whole vegetable in the weight loss diet.

The meals given to the participants in the study included boiled potatoes with skin refrigerated for 12 to 24 hours before being served.

The fitness coach doesn’t advise deep-frying the potatoes. It’s best and healthiest when boiled, and you can always spice it up with seasonings of your choice. Furthermore, you would gain about 77 calories for 100 grams of potato, which is low compared to other foods.

Several TikTok users were choked to learn that potatoes are good for weight loss as opposed to the popular belief that they make you fat. “What! I thought they make you gain weight,” wrote one.

“LOL. All my life I was trying to avoid this to lose weight.” said another, when a third user commented: “Really? I thought they are bad carbs.”
