‘Weight loss drug’ to burn fat could have long-lasting effects, shows study
Losing weight isn’t always easy. Most fail to achieve their goal because they can’t keep up with their diet, exercise, or both. But the latest scientific breakthrough suggests a drug could help you lose weight without working out or counting calories.
Weight loss takes longer and requires more effort if you don’t watch what you eat. That’s why, a fitness influencer swears by one trick to lose belly fat.

Scientistic discovery says fat can ‘burn itself’
It takes more effort and time to lose weight if you do not restrict your calorie intake. It’s possible to reduce your weight by consuming fewer calories or making sure you exercise enough to burn the stored calories.
The researchers at UC San Francisco in the USA have concluded that the fat in the body can burn itself if white fat cells turn into beige fat cells – which happens in the absence of a protein called KLF-15.
While white cells store fat, brown cells facilitate metabolism – burning the food we eat into fat, sugar, and amino acids. Whereas, beige cells perform both tasks.
The scientists tried to understand the impact of the KLF-15 on mice because they retain brown cells throughout life. It was found that the white fat cells had much less of the protein important for metabolism compared to brown or beige fat cells.
The paper published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation reports the team bred mice with white fat cells that lacked the protein and saw they could convert them into beige cells naturally.
A drug to make weight loss less tricky
The protein present in the fat cells has an Adrb3 receptor, responsible for natural energy balance. The researchers used the drug targeting the receptor in mice, causing them to lose weight.
Unfortunately, the same results didn’t repeat during the human trial. However, they believe, that developing drugs that target the Adrb1 receptor is more likely to contribute to weight loss while limiting the side effects.
Calories deficit is the only way to lose weight if exercise or FDA-approved weight loss drugs aren’t working in your favor. Neuroscientist Dr. Robert Love recommends three supplements that can help you lose weight by “burning fat”.
