Two popular ultra-processed foods reduce your lifespan by years, shows study

Ultra or highly-processed food can cause serious health damage and researchers outline two specific food items from the category that can cause an early death.

There’s a plethora of information on what to eat and what not to do for a healthy lifestyle. Recent research shows a shorter lifespan among people who eat food with less nutritional value.

Highly processed food linked to shorter life expectancy

The study examined older adults and their eating habits for nearly thirty years, and those who ate ultra-processed food died sooner than people who ate food rich in nutrients.

The report under the American Society for Nutrition states: “Higher intake of ultra-processed foods was associated with modest increases in death from any cause and from deaths related specifically to heart disease or diabetes.

However, the study that tracked over half a million U.S. adults found no association between an unhealthy diet and cancer-related deaths. More than half of the participants whose eating habits in the 1990s were used as data for the research are since dead.

In addition to a shorter lifespan, ultra-processed food is considered bad for your brain health and mental state as the comfort lean you lean on can make your symptoms worse.

People who ate these two things died early

Participants who died during the study included two popular items in their regular diet – soft drinks and processed meat.

Older adults who often had drinks made of artificial sweeteners or ate processed meats such as hot dogs, sausages, and deli meat were at the risk of dying sooner. Neuroscientist Dr. Robert Love warns soda lovers against its aging effects alongside two more drinks.
