‘Something went wrong’: Truth Social waitlist and more issues explored

While Twitter users are reporting being placed on a long waitlist for Truth Social, others have apparently received a red error warning, stating: Something went wrong. Please try again. What does it mean?

Truth Social: Something went wrong

Some of those trying to sign up for Truth Social or trying to log in for the first time using a username they pre-reserved have received an error message stating: Something went wrong.

Please try again, reads the message. See below.

Meanwhile, others report being unable to get past a validating screen. Users have suggested age-old remedies such as checking junk folders or simply hanging on in there.

The Something went wrong error, and/or the prolonged verification delay, may have to do with what one Twitter user (aptly named The Expert) claims is a simple error of chronology.

Their clock is six hours off, writes the user. I just got my verification and it was sent from six hours in the future.

Whats the deal with the Truth Social waitlist?

Due to massive demand, numerous would-be Truth Socialites report having been placed on a waitlist.

We love you, and youre not just another number to us, continues the message. But your waitlist number is below.

Except, for some at least, it doesnt seem to be going down as you would expect. One Twitter user claims their Truth Social waitlist number rose from 24,000 to 115,408, which is certainly unusual for a waitlist.

For some, humour is the best mechanism with which to cope. One wrote on Twitter their Truth Social waitlist number looks like it suffered a vote by mail dump overnight. In other words, like the user above, their number jumped up as well.

Another noted they had never come across this issue with any of the mainstream social media sites, such as Twitter, TikTok or SnapChat. Its not an auspicious start, they added.

Vanity Fair predicted in October 2021 that Truth Social would probably be a flop, despite a valuation of something like $1.7 billion.

Are such long waitlists typical for beta versions of social media apps?

One user has suggested, on Twitter, that Clubhouse faced similar challenges. And Facebook, too, when it was invite-only. Another says Truth Socials waitlist build-up sounds pretty typical for an apps beta state.

The app launched last week to a handful of beta testers, writes Axios Media Trends author Sara Fischer.

As of late Sunday evening, it appeared to be working for a handful of people who had been using the app via the beta test to report bugs.

While todays official launch was supposed to have moved past the beta stage, one Twitter user suggests this just happens sometimes.

Sometimes apps are in the app store but still gating full availability of their service. They concede, however, it doesnt look good if (the social media company in this case Truth Social) are not clear about it to users.
