Robert F Kennedy Jr’s workout routine would be ‘too much for a normal 69-year-old’, expert says
In late August, Donald Trump introduced Robert F Kennedy Jr at a campaign rally in Arizona, signaling the end of RFKs presidential hopes. He said the principles that had led him to leave the Democratic Party (in 2023) had inspired him to throw my support to President Trump. Although he’s out of the presidential race, Robert F Kennedy Jr’s intense workout regime is still a topic of debate.
RFK Jr ran an energetic campaign as an independent candidate and has become well known for many things, among them being an intense, and clearly effective, workout regime and anti-aging protocol. He has been in the news for more than his presidential bid, though, when an old story drudged up the time he collected a “whale specimen, while on a family vacation. While he’s made headlines for who he is going to vote for in November, Robert F Kennedy’s workout routine has also been making waves. We wanted to know more about his exercise regimen, so we asked a rehab clinician what effect it might be having on his body.

Robert F Kennedys workout regimen would be too much for a normal 69-year-old
But hes not a normal 69-year-old, says Thompson Maesaka, a rehab clinician who specializes in the holistic management of various injuries. For that reason, hes capable of keeping it up.
First, Maesaka says, RFK Jr is doing a lot of things right to be able to work out as hard as he does. His publicized routine will follow below, for those unfamiliar with it.
Supplements, fasting, structure… All of these things aren’t especially common for people that age to engage in regularly. In other words, a normal 69-year-old would probably not be able to keep up with Kennedy Jrs fitness regime.
Most 69-year-olds are just trying to stay active, reduce pain, and maintain muscle mass as they age. Jumping right into the deep end is a recipe for injury.
He ‘takes a lot of vitamins’
Part of Robert F Kennedy Jrs anti-aging protocol is testosterone replacement therapy (TRT).
He doesnt take any steroids, he says. But he takes a lot of vitamins. I cant even list them to you here because I couldnt remember them all, but I take a ton of vitamins and nutrients, and then Im on an anti-aging protocol from my doctor that includes testosterone replacement, quoted by Marathon Handbook.
Maesaka calls this the elephant in the room, since RFK Jrs TRT immediately allows for more vigorous training and faster recovery times.
Age 69, no one without TRT could keep up a routine that intense, he says. If he ever comes off of it, his tendons and ligaments won’t keep up with the high-intensity weight training, and he’ll likely have to prioritize lower-impact, joint-friendly routines to compensate for the years of excessive loading the TRT has allowed.
With the TRT considered, no normal 69-year-old person will stand a chance of matching his routine.
Images and videos of the former presidential candidate without a top on, working out, or working out without a top on, regularly circulate on social media, earning the praise of fitness fans.
What does RFK Jr actually do every day as part of his fitness routine?
RFK Jr reportedly hikes a mile and a half uphill and back down again, every day, with his dogs.
Then I go to the gym, he explains. I go to the gym for 35 minutes. I have been exercising for 50 years, and what Ive found is that its sustainable if I do short just periods.
He never relaxes at the gym. When hes there, hes there to work out, and he does so intensively: I lift. I do back one day, chest one day, legs, and then a miscellaneous.
Marathon Handbook classifies Robert F Kennedy Jrs cardio routine as moderate-intensity. His weightlifting routine is akin to high-intensity resistance training, or HIRT, geared towards muscle-building rather than strength or endurance training.
In case it wasn’t clear enough already, it is not something we recommend our 69-year-old readers try at home unless you’re on TRT, remarkably fit, or remarkably fit and on TRT.
