Popular breakfast item is actually the worst thing to eat in the morning

You might want to switch up your breakfast choice because one popular food is actually a really bad thing to eat in the morning.

Two health fanatics called The Thrive Boys made the shock revelation in a viral TikTok video, and it can all be backed up with science.

The worst breakfast item to eat

The surprising breakfast item you need to ditch is cereal, which is often packed with added sugar and refined carbs.

“If I see one more diet plan that consists of Coco Pops, I promise I’m gonna lose my s***,” one of the men said in the video.

He added that bagels and Rice Krispie bars are also bad, and it’s because they all have a high glycemic index.

The glycaemic index (GI) isa rating system for foods containing carbohydrates that determines how much it affects your blood sugar levels, Healthline reveals.

“There’s no problem with having these foods but you’ve got to be careful when you have them,” the other TikTok user continued.

He explained that if you’re starting off your day by shooting up your blood sugars, you’ll be “starving again” in an hour.

Stay fuller for longer

A report by the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) in Science Daily found that eating low glycemic index foods in the morning helps prevent a spike in blood sugar.

These breakfast foods will “increase feelings of satiety and fullness” and make you less likely to overeat throughout the day.

Foods with a high glycemic index are digested quickly which results in high fluctuations in blood sugar levels.

However, foods with a low glycemic index gradually increase blood sugar and insulin levels and are considered healthier.

Richard Mattes, professor of foods and nutrition at Purdue University, found that people who ate breakfast containing whole almonds felt fuller for longer.

He also found that they had lower blood glucose concentrations after breakfast and lunch and spontaneously chose to eat less throughout the day.
