Influencer’s ‘criminal’ outfit calls into question modern wedding etiquette

An influencer has been subjected to criticism after she dressed in “inappropriate” attire for a friend’s wedding, in turn bringing up questions about wedding etiquette in the 21st century.

Though they have somewhat evolved over the years, with antiquated traditions filtered into modern rituals, weddings are still one of the biggest events of a person’s life. They bring together families, spark lifelong memories, and give your friends the chance to let loose.

The influencer chose a very revealing white dress

Tahlia Skaines (@tahliaskaines) is an Australian influencer who boasts over 830k followers on Instagram where she predominantly posts content about travel, lifestyle, and fashion.

The 29-year-old influencer found herself in hot water this week as she did away with tradition and committed arguably the biggest wedding guest sin, she wore white!

Though history is somewhat blurred, many historians claim that wearing white to your wedding became the trend following Queen Victoria’s marriage to Prince Albert in 1840. Since then, it’s been taboo to upstage the bride with a white dress of your own.

Tahlia did just that earlier this week as she showed pictures on Instagram alongside the caption: “A beautiful day celebrating love.”

The wedding itself was hosted in Uluwatu, Bali, Indonesia, though fans were only treated to a brief look at the event in the final image of Tahlia’s carousel.

Instead, most of the images were taken up by pictures of her, with one fan labeling her a potential winner of 2024’s “Narcissist of the Year” contest.

The first image featured Tahlia in a floor-length cream/white dress as she posed for pictures against scenic views. The dress had a side piece cut out to flash her legs, while the neckline plunged into a huge cutout, flashing her entire midriff.

She kept her makeup very low-key, doing away with chunky smokey eyes for something more subtle with swatches of pink and blush.

‘I would politely ask her to change outfits or leave’

Though Tahlia’s comment section was filled with the usual “stunning” and “You’re gorgeous”, there was a clear split between those who thought the outfit was fine and those who did not.

One person scathed: “Seriously? Even if there isnt a dress code did you forget that this day isnt about you? You wore a nearly identical dress to the bride& have just a shred of decency and decorum ffs.”

“What’s the need to show off like that to your friends wedging?? Obviously insecure,” another questioned, while a third said, “Just another of 7 billion trashfluencers on Instagram. Completely useless.”
