I tried to get rid of cockroaches using a DIY remedy made of two basic ingredients
Cockroaches make your living hell. They destroy your things, and food, and carry disease-causing bacteria you wouldn’t want to get close to.
But getting rid of them is tricky. Sometimes even commercial products can’t remove cockroaches from their hiding spots. However, the DIY solution is believed to be highly effective in luring them out of any corner.

I found the viral hack on TikTok
The DIY remedy popular on TikTok is the latest to the list of hacks I’ve tried in the past few months. The video-sharing platform has shown me the easiest ways to peel eggs, and I’ve also been duped by fake hacks, such as the viral Skittles Popcorn.
I’ve grappled with cockroach infestation for most of my life. The home remedy claims to solve the problem for good, so I couldn’t help trying it. You only need two ingredients.
Mix an equal ratio of sugar and baking soda and sprinkle it in and around your house. You can spread it in any corner or cabinet infested with cockroaches.
While the sugar attracts the insects, the properties of baking soda can kill them when they feed on it. This method is dubbed safer than the others that include chemicals. However, ensure you keep pets and children away from the baking soda and sugar mixture as it can still cause health issues if consumed accidentally.
Hard to tell if it worked
Unlike sprays and other traps for cockroaches which produce instant results, I couldn’t tell if the viral hack works as claimed. It’s been two days since I sprinkled the home remedy in my kitchen and not a single dead cockroach is to be seen.
This isn’t to say that the DIY solution is ineffective because the cockroaches could have died from eating it, but in a place I can’t see or reach.
Maybe you would know if the method works after a couple of days if the infestation is drastically reduced. But I suggest checking your cabinets and other closed areas for dead cockroaches if you intend to try this method.
