How to export your Twitter following list and find friends on Mastodon
For users moving over to Mastodon, the one question on many people’s minds is how to export your Twitter following list and bookmarks.
Following Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter in October many users have questioned the certainty of the social media platform’s future.
Further questions about the future of Twitter came into play when the SpaceX owner reportedly gave employees an ultimatum that they must sign up for long hours at high intensity, or walk away from the company, Reuters reports.

Users move to Mastodon
Mastodon is an alternative social media platform to Twitter with a similar principle. It was founded by German software developer Eugen Rochko in 2016. Unlike Twitter, Mastodon is registered as a non-profit platform, meaning there are no shareholders.
Although the interface looks similar to Twitter, on Mastodon users can send short posts called toots instead of tweets up to 500 characters, unlike 280 on the former site. They can also be edited.
The site has had an influx of users in the last few days including celebs such as Stephen Fry, Gigi Hadid and Kathy Griffin.
How to export your Twitter following list
Moving to a new social media platform is one thing, transferring all those hard-earned contacts is another. To carry that out, many movers are turning to sites like Debirdify.
Using Debirdify, Fedifinder, or Twitodon makes it easy to export your Twitter following list.
To export your following list via Debirdify, a Twitter user must visit the transfer website. You must be logged into Twitter. Once youre there click on the purple button labeled authorize with Twitter.
This takes you to Twitter and asks whether you want to authorize the app. Once authorized and you can revoke access at any time you are taken back to Debirdify where you can choose to retrieve lists of your followers, followed accounts, blocked accounts and muted accounts. Then transfer them over to your Fediverse and search for your followers there.
Fedifinder also helps Twitter users make the move
In a similar way to Debirdify, Fedifinder helps extract the fediverse handles of your Twitter following or list members and import them onto Mastodon so you can follow them all at once.

To use Fedifinder, visit the website or if its being slowedFedifinder BackuporFedifinder Backup 2 and click the authorize to extract handles button. As long as youre logged into Twitter it works in a similar way to Debirdify.
Twitodon is another option, but it needs you and your followers to be signed up there to match you.
