Brit woman perplexed by the amount of holidays Americans get each year

There are plenty of things Americans do differently that can shock people elsewhere. But the number of holidays people in the U.S. get is “unbelievable” to a British woman.

TikTok user Phoebe, who posts numerous videos addressing the American culture, including a bedding essential they don’t use so often, has yet again expressed her disbelief about the paid holiday system in the U.S., which could turn her “insane.”

Brit woman shocked by ‘fewer’ paid leaves Americans get

Every country has a unique system of federal or national holidays, although U.S. citizens are known for getting the fewest paid leaves.

In her recent video, Phoebe admits to thinking she had it worse with 28 days off of work, as seen among organizations in the U.K.

However, she “couldn’t believe” Americans get as little as “five days off of work” per year, although the statistics aren’t entirely accurate.

She was so shocked that she didn’t hesitate to ask her American followers how they are “happy” with such a system that allows only limited holidays.

“I get it if you enjoy your work and I am happy for you,” she says, before adding that she would “literally go insane” if she only got as many paid leaves as people in the U.S.

She concludes her video by expressing immense respect and admiration for those who don’t get “enough” leave from work every year like she does.

How many federal holidays are there in the U.S.?

The TikTok user claims she learned from an American that they are only permitted five holidays per year, but that’s not entirely true.

According to the U.S. government website, there are 11 federal holidays in total, including New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Christmas Day, etc.

Some people residing in regions like Washington, DC, may get an additional day off on Inauguration Day if it falls on January 20th of every 4th year.

Full-time and part-time employees, whose work is scheduled on a federal holiday, get the day off and get paid normally.

However, those who work on intermittent schedules like daily, hourly, etc., don’t get paid leaves or replacements for working on a federal holiday. They don’t receive premium pay for working on a holiday either.
