40 year old life coach shares the helpful tips he wished hed learned at 20

A life coach and business expert offered tips, tricks, and hacks for 20-year-olds on social media, having learned the juicy life lessons from his 44 years on planet Earth.

Though you’ve undoubtedly already realized that life can be difficult, reaching out for assistance is sometimes easier said than done. Thankfully, the age of social media has sparked a culture of sharing where people can learn new things without the pressure of immediately seeking professional assistance. A recent example would be the sleep doctor who told his followers how to properly nap.

Top tips from a 40-year-old professional

Dan Go, a fitness coach with over 300k followers on Twitter, has helped professionals achieve their goals for over 15 years. Earlier this week, he posted a lengthy thread that shared some of the golden advice he wished he’d known 20 years earlier.

“When you turn 40 you’ll see a divide between those who took care of their bodies & those who didn’t,” he started, before adding, “Getting 8 hours of sleep & taking walks outside will help you more than any health guru on the planet.”

The rest of Dan’s points follow the same themes, though it’s important to note that not all of them would necessarily apply to your situation. Moreover, Dan is not a doctor or medical professional so his advice should not form the basis of major life-changing decisions.

Health above all

A major part of Dan’s list was the emphasis on physical, mental, and spiritual health. On the topic of keeping your brain fighting fit, the fitness expert said it’s vital to keep your “software updated” through scientifically backed methods like brain training, reading, meditation, and learning new skills.

On physical health specifically, Dan argued that “Food is the most widely abused drug. Exercise is the most underutilized antidepressant.”

Dan also said that the foods we eat affect our gut, which affects our brain. Though scientists have published information on the link for some time, gut health has become a major point of contention online after influencers put forward inaccurate gut control methods like the Ancestral Diet.

On the social side of things, Dan said that 20-year-olds should appreciate their parents more because they are just doing “the best they could with what they were taught.”

After gaining some success, he also noticed how his friend group changed and evolved. He said you need to “accept this” and move on while also ensuring you cherish every moment you have with them.

Not all friends are created equal, and Dan said you could soon come across what is known online as an energy vampire. These people tend to suck the air out of the room, leaving you without energy and the urge to scream.

While some have previously argued that energy vampire friendships can be saved, Dan said it’s best to take “that as a signal to not hang around that person anymore.”

If you want better results find better friends. This doesn’t mean to get rid of close ones. It does mean to level up the people you hang around,” he added. The less you give a f**k about what other people think the more peaceful you’ll feel.”
