Proposing is one of the biggest moments of your life, so you want to make sure you do it at the right time.

Getting down on one knee when your other half isn’t ready could result in an embarrassing ‘No’, but you can avoid that by watching out for hints your partner is ready for the big question.

6 signs your partner wants you to propose

Engagement ring expert Blake Asaad, who founded GOODSTONE, says people usually drop hints when they are ready to take things to the next level.

1. They are talking about the future

The first telltale sign that your partner wants you to propose is talking about your future together. If they often discuss long-term plans like buying a home or starting a family, they can envision your lives together forever and are ready for that more serious commitment.

2. Commenting on other engagements

If your partner is always gushing over other people’s engagements, whether it’s friends, family, influencers online or even celebrities, that is a clear sign they would like you to get down on one knee soon.

3. Looking at rings on social media

A quick glance at their social media pages will tell you everything you need to know. If they have been looking at rings or proposals online, their Instagram and TikTok pages will be full of similar recommendations, so take a peek.

4. Hinting about the ring they want

Most people have a specific ring style they want and will communicate that with their other half. If your partner has sent you a picture of a specific ring, told you their ring size and vocalized what diamond shape they want, it’s time to propose.

5. Playfully talking about proposals

People who want to get engaged often playfully talk about proposals in a jokey way to hint to their partner they are ready for commitment. They are usually testing the waters to see how you react and work out if it’s on the cards.

6. Talking about weddings

Finally, it’s normal to dream of what you want want your wedding to be like from a young age, but suddenly showing a greater interest in locations, styles and venues than usual is a sign your partner is thinking about their own.
