British mans baked potato hack starts international incident as people question whether its genius or gross

A British man’s questionable baked potato hack has seemingly started an international incident as Americans claim he is both a “genius” and “gross”.

The American and British divide is alive and well despite the two countries having a great working relationship. There are too many cultural differences to count, from the use of the duvet to the questionable way British people say water.

What’s the proper way to eat a baked potato?

A baked potato, or a jacket potato as the British call it, is an age-old and simplistic meal that has filled our stomachs for generations. Everyone has their own unique preferences, with some liking it simple with butter and cheese and others going the full mile. Then there’s Drew (@drewkear__) who has his own method.

In a video uploaded by his girlfriend Millie (@milliejanerichardson) earlier this week, Drew tucked into a baked potato. While the standard practice is to split the carb in two and load it up with your chosen toppings, Drew proceeded to scoop out the potato into a bowl.

The Brit then piled cheese on the loose potato, though some Americans might take issue with his inclusion of beans. To finish off his marvelous meal, he topped it again with a mixture of tuna and mayonnaise.

While his choices in topping are controversial enough, Drew then used his discarded potato skins to scoop up his mixture of potato, cheese, beans, tuna, and mayonnaise.

Fans had a number of issues

As you might expect, Millie’s comment section quickly became a battleground for people to debate her boyfriend’s favorite meal.

One of the biggest criticisms was that Drew’s lengthy process missed the point of a baked potato meal, it is supposed to be easy after all.

“Jacket potatos meant to be an easy tea,” one person said, to which Millie responded, “This is what Im saying. Hes making it hard work but does look good!!!”

Some also took issue with his choice of toppings, as one complained: “Beans and cheese is one potato topping tuna mayo is another TOGETHER is wild.”

“Nahhh this is well smart only weird thing here is baked beans and cheese with tuna mayo either one or the other for me,” another wrote.

There were, of course, passionate defenders of Drew and his eating habits, as one penned: “So its like a deconstructed jacket potato! Its actually quite good idea!”
