Why did Candy Montgomery kill Betty Gore?
Candy Montgomery killed Betty Gore as a result of a physical altercation between the two after Betty confronted Candy about her affair with Allan Gore – Betty’s husband.
According to Candy’s testimony, she killed Betty in self-defence after Betty attacked her first with an axe.
Candy proceeded to hit Betty 41 times with the weapon but a psychiatrist stated Candy experienced a dissociative episode while she attacked Betty, which would explain why she didn’t realise how many times she hit her.
Where is Candy now?
The self-defence plea saw the conviction against her dropped and Candy and her husband Pat relocated to Georgia from Texas.
However, the Montgomerys divorced soon after the move and Candy now goes by her maiden name, Candace Wheeler.
Candy still lives in Georgia and is reported to be working as a mental health therapist for depressed teenagers and adults.

Candy episode guide
Candy consists of five episodes in total, with each instalment lasting between 46 and 55 minutes. One episode will premiere per night on Hulu, with the first episode having aired on Monday, 9 May 2022.
The show has been billed as a miniseries, meaning the narrative will be contained to one season and won’t extend to a second.
As per the below schedule, the Candy finale will release on Friday, 13 May 2022, and we’ve highlighted the episode titles and their release dates:
