Who plays Brick on General Hospital?

You may know Stephen A. Smith as the MVP of ESPN now that he is in his second tenure with the network. What you may not have known is that he also plays a role in ABC’s General Hospital.

Stephen A. Smith plays Brick on General Hospital, making his acting debut on the ABC soap opera in a cameo appearance as a reporter on 2 February 2007. Smith returned to GH in April 2016 as Brick, a surveillance expert for the Mob. Since then he has made several appearances throughout 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Smith is also a huge fan of General Hospital. “I have four older sisters, and when we came home from school, all the TVs in the house were on GH,” Smith told ESPN Front Row. “Since I wasn’t allowed outside until I finished my homework, I watched the soap every day.”

Maurice Benard who plays Sonny on the soap was a guest on First Take in 2015, after discovering Smith’s passion for the soap he arranged for him to have a role as Brick.

Stephen A. Smith’s career explored

After attending the Fashion Institute of Technology for one year, Smith received a basketball scholarship to attend Winston-Salem State University, where he graduated in 1991. He then pursued a career in acting, appearing in Chris Rock’s I Think I Love My Wife.

Before working for ESPN he had experience on Fox Sports Radio and reported for the Winston-Salem Journal, the Greensboro News and Record and the New York Daily News. He also held several positions as a general sports columnist for 16 years with the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Along with his regular cameos on General Hospital, he is also a featured commentator on First Take and an analyst on NBA Countdown. Stephen A.’s World is his self-titled show that he is the executive producer of alongside his production company Mr SAS Productions and ESPN.

Smith joined ESPN in 2003 as an analyst for the network’s NBA Shootaround (now called NBA Countdown) pregame show. He has made many contributions to ESPN since 2003 such as hosting The Stephen A. Smith Show on ESPN Radio. He was also the host of ESPN2’s Quite Frankly with Stephen A. Smith from 2005 to 2007.

From 2011 to 2014, Smith hosted a two-hour (1-3 p.m.), weekday local show on ESPN Radio 98.7FM in New York.  For the year that he started, he covered both coasts as he also hosted a local show on ESPN LA 710AM in Los Angeles.

With a long list of credits to his name, GH fans can agree that Brick is among their favourite!
