Eight-part Hulu miniseries Welcome To Chippendales premiered on November 22, 2022. Where is Somen “Steve” Banerjee’s son Christian now, and what was his age when his father died?
The series stars Kumail Nanjiani as the seneschal of the Chippendales franchise. Murray Bartlett plays his choreographer, Nick de Noia, whom Roger Ebert praises as the show’s “real headliner.”
Christian Banerjee doesn’t appear among the character list on IMDB; the only three “Banerjee relatives” are unnamed.
So where is the real Christian Banerjee now, and how old was he when his father Somen died in 1994?
Meet Christian: Age and occupation of Somen ‘Steve’ Banerjee’s son
Age 30, or perhaps 31, Christian Banerjee is the son of the man who founded the Chippendales in 1979.
His height is 6ft 3in (1.9m), and as of September last year, he weighed 235lb (106.5kg).
When Vice published a feature on him in 2021, he was working for one the United States’ largest male strip franchises, Hunk-O-Mania.
He also worked freelance as a dancer and had big plans for his own male revue, called Strippendales.
Where is Christian Banerjee now?
Banerjee launched Strippendales in early 2020, according to a New York Post profile and interview published earlier this year. But its inaugural night of entertainment wouldn’t come until later.
He lives in Huntington Beach, California, and hopes to find “second-generation” adult entertainment fame with his company.
“I hope to have the same international fame as Chippendales,” he told the Post. Not only does dancing earn him a living, the outlet notes, it also provides him with a “tangible connection to his late father.”
“People have a lot of opinions and that’s fine. He was a good guy. … I’ve always had this connection with my dad, even though he wasn’t living, through Chippendales. I think he’d want to push me in this direction. He’d want to continue his legacy through his son.”
Who is his godfather, Bruce Nahin?
Nahin, above, launched Chippendales with Christian Banerjee’s father in 1979.
He’s 67 years old, perhaps 68, and told Vice last year that he is “proud” of his godson. He joked: “I’m hoping one day he’ll need loads of legal work so I can send gigantic bills and maybe squeeze 10 percent out of him.”
Nahin and Steve Banerjee met in 1977. Bruce was in his 20s at the time, and studying law at Loyola.
When did Christian Banerjee’s mother die?
Irene, who was Somen Banerjee’s wife and who gave birth to Christian, died of breast cancer in 2001.
“I saw her lose her hair… I saw her get chemo until she died,” he told Vice. His father had died seven years earlier, when he was just three or four years old.
He became an orphan at the age of 10 or 11, and he and his sister went to live with Irene’s sister and her husband in Buffalo, New York.
Christian’s sister, Lindsay Taylor Banerjee, is credited as a producer on the 2001 film Chippendales, which specifically documented a calendar photoshoot.
