WAVY viewers have wondered where morning anchor Katie Collett has been following an extended absence from her usual on-screen duties.

Katie Collett has become a familiar face to WAVY viewers over the years, with some having since wondered why she has not been on-screen.

This week, Collett shared an update with WAVY viewers on her social media and revealed she’s coming back very soon.

Where is Katie Collett?

Katie Collett addressed her absence from her anchoring duties in a post to her 10,400 followers on Twitter on Monday. In the tweet, Collett explained she had not been on-screen because she had tested positive for covid 19.

The anchor went on to add that because she is immunocompromised, she had stayed home for a longer period in line with CDC guidelines. As explained on the CDC website, people who are very sick from covid or those who have a weakened immune system are recommended to isolate themselves for up to 20 days.

Collett had been keeping her followers on Instagram up to date with her covid journey. She revealed she had contracted the virus at the start of the month. In a follow-up post to her feed, she explained she had tested negative the following week.

WAVY anchor is set to return this Friday

Today, Wednesday 22 June, Katie Collett announced she would be back in the Portsmouth, Virginia station studio this week.

Taking to Facebook, the anchor said she would be finally reuniting with her WAVY team this Friday (24 June).

Viewers have since shared their excitement in the comments as they count down the days until her return.

One wrote: “Can’t wait to see you!!” while another added: “That’s awesome news. Can’t wait till Friday morning.”

Katie Collett’s been a part of WAVY for 15 years

Collett joined the Portsmouth, Virginia TV station in 2007 as a news anchor and reporter. 15 years on, she’s still a regular on our screens.

Now she is known for anchoring the morning broadcasts, with Collett having joined the morning team a decade ago in 2012.

She reflected on her 14 years at the station in May last year as she reunited with her co-anchor, Don Roberts.

Before joining WAVY, the anchor had previously worked as part of the Johnstown, Pennsylvania station, WJAC-TV for four years
