As Hurricane Ida approaches, weather watchers are wondering where meteorologist Jim Cantore is.
Cantore, 57, is known for heading to the heart of the action – or the eye of the storm – when a weather disaster hits the United States.
The Weather Channel meteorologist has been reporting for the network since 1986. Since then, Cantore has been on hand for live field coverage of major weather events. Some of the disastrous events Cantore has covered include Hurricanes Ike, Katrina, Irene, and Sandy.

Jim Cantore announced he was headed to NOLA to chart Hurricane Ida’s movements.
“See you soon NOLA,” Cantore wrote in a comment on the @NOLANews Instagram account. “I promise you I wish it was for fun and food and not the damn Cane!”

New Orleans warns Cantore about Ida
As Jim Cantore was gearing up to head to New Orleans, the NOLA residents took it upon themselves to issue a weather warning to the meteorologist.
At the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway a sign was mounted saying “Jim Cantore stay home!”
The city has had a love-hate relationship with Cantore since he covered Hurricane Andrew in Baton Rouge back in 1992.
