The real reason Jack Abbott exited Young And The Restless
Peter Bergman, who plays Jack Abbott, told Soaps In Depth he is having to undergo emergency eye surgery to repair a detached retina. This surgery requires quite a bit of recovery time and will keep him off of the show for the foreseeable future. However, don’t panic, Jack’s exit is only temporary and he will be back in Genoa City in no time.
Bergman first discovered there was a problem whilst he was travelling to the central coast of California with his wife to visit family. “On the way, there was a funny thing on the inside corner of my left eye,” Bergman told Soaps. “By the end of the night, it was like a curtain closing in towards the centre of my eyesight.”
The next morning he sought medical attention and was diagnosed with a detached retina. Instead of having surgery in San Luis Obispo, he got an appointment the following day in Los Angeles, cut the trip short and returned home for the procedure.
The recovery process from this surgery is important and can take a long. Bergman has to keep his face parallel to the floor for 50 minutes of every hour for seven days. His wife, Mariellen, has made her own contraption so he can watch TV while in position.
Bergman said his “temporary visit with blindness” was a “sobering reminder of how precious eyesight is”.

Jack Abbott will return to your screen very soon. In fact, Bergman is already back at work resuming his role as Jack and discussing storylines for his character in 2022. One may regard his intentions towards Phyllis.
