King Edward and his warriors are back for the fifth and final instalment of The Last Kingdom as it was released to Netflix on Wednesday, 9 March. We explore Timothy Innes’ age as he portrays King Edward in the final chapter.

The show is based on a collection of novels called The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell. It was then adapted into a gory Middle Ages drama that first landed on our screens back in 2015 on BBC Two, before arriving on Netflix from season 3 onwards. Season 3 was also when we were first introduced to Timothy Innes, so let’s find out more about the actor.

Who is Timothy Innes and what age is he?

Timothy Innes is a 28-year-old British actor who has played the role of King Edward in seasons 3, 4 and 5 of the famous Vikings series, The Last Kingdom. He was born in 1993 in Bristol and his brother Joe is also in the spotlight as a London-based singer-songwriter who performs with his band The Cavalcade.

Innes attended St Francis of Assisi Primary School in Southgate and then St Wilfrid’s Catholic School in Crawley. His love for acting was rooted in his school days where he received a GCSE in Drama and an A level in Theatre Studies. Innes furthered his acting skills at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School for 3 years from 2012 to 2015, where he graduated with a BA in Acting.

He started his acting career on stage in 2011 performing in the Spring Awakening play at Brighton Fringe Festival. Whilst studying at Bristol Old Vic he was in countless plays including; Speaking in Tongues, Sauce for the Goose, Comedy of Errors, and The Heresy of Love.

Innes made his first onscreen debut in the supportive role of Mark Walsh in 2016 on Doctors. You may be more familiar with his role as Benjamin Lennox in Harlots or for featuring in The Sense of an Ending, Daphne, The Favourite or Ashes in the Snow.

King Edward on The Last Kingdom season 5

As we know Aethelstan succeeds Edward as King, and in season five Uhtred prepares him for this role. We also see King Edward bring an army to Bebbanburg’s gates, after ignoring everyone’s advice.

Viewers are then treated to a gory battle which results in many Saxons being pushed off the edge of the cliff. Of course, Uhtred and his crew come to the rescue as they save the King from meeting his fate.
