How many episodes does The Chestnut Man have?

There are only six episodes in The Chestnut Man, aka Kastanjemanden.

Fans are complaining the only flaw to the series is how short it is. The series is directed by Mikkel Serup and Kasper Barfoed, and co-written for the screen by Søren Sveistrup, Dorte W Høgh and David Sandreuter.

Søren Sveistrup also wrote the novel so it makes sense that he serves as the head writer for the Netflix adaptation.

Will there be a second season?

Netflix has yet to publicly renew the show for a season 2. However, if it gets the green light it could premiere late in 2022 or even in early 2023.

Towards the end of season 1 we see the Chestnut Man case solved. This means if there is to be a season 2, it will likely have to be about a new crime investigation.

What happens in the book the show is based on?

The series is based on a novel of the same name by Søren Sveistrup, although it was originally entitled Kastanjemanden.

In the book, the Chestnut Man is patrolling Copenhagen with the same method of killing as in the series. In the book there are also two detectives who work together to solve the crimes.

Chestnut Man season 1 spoilers

Season 1 of The Chestnut Man follows a family who have been brutally murdered on their farm in 1987. An officer finds a room full of little figures made from matches and chestnuts.

The series then flashes to the body of a woman found on a playground with a missing hand as officers look for clues. When a small figure made of matches and chestnuts is found hanging like the ones found on the farm more than three decades before, police become suspicious. Now the hunt begins for the Chestnut Man, a serial killer who remains at large.

Detectives Mark Hess and Naia Thulin investigate the case and try to track down the serial killer before he (or she) can add to their tally.
