Ted Lasso is undoubtedly one of the biggest TV shows in the last year, having been nominated for a record number of Emmys – here’s how you can achieve your own costume inspired by everyone’s favourite football coach.

Why is Ted Lasso so popular?

Ted Lasso. A name that sounds fake, but who would’ve guessed it would be a name loved by so many around the world?

Jason Sudeikis brings his comedic flair to embody the character of Lasso, an enthusiastic American football coach who hails from Kansas. When he accepts the job to become the new coach of English football team, AFC Richmond, despite his lack of sport knowledge, it is his hilarious culture shock that has entertained households through the pandemic.

Widely referred to as “wholesome“, the sport drama is a must-watch series for a weekly pick-me-up given the relatability and realistic flaws of every character, and the friendship development between the cast.

Redditors have simply described it as “a mug of hot chocolate”, and honestly, there’s isn’t a more appropriate way to explain it.

Clearly both viewers and critics have recognised the masterpiece that is Ted Lasso – the Apple TV+ series made history with the most Emmy nominations in one year with 20, beating out Glee’s 19 from 2010.

On accepting his Lead Actor in a Comedy Emmy, Sudeikis said: “This show’s about family, mentors and teachers, about teammates, and I wouldn’t be here without those three things in my life.”

DIY Ted Lasso Halloween costumes

There’s currently no official Ted Lasso Halloween costumes for sale, but since coach is extremely sought-for this spooky season, here are some ideas.

Ted Lasso

Keep it stylish and simple with beige chinos, a white or blue shirt and a navy blue V-neck jumper on top. Pair it with some trainers and you’re good to go.

To truly become Mr Lasso, it’s imperative to sport a thick mustache. You could also sport a whistle and add a fabric patch on your jumper to act as the club logo.

Coach Ted Lasso

Yes, there’s a difference between the two Lasso’s. For his on-the-job uniform, you’ll need a navy tracksuit, a whistle lanyard, a visor, some aviator sunglasses to shade you from the harsh English sun, and a mustache.

Coach Beard

The three coaches would be a perfect group costume. Beard’s get-up will need a navy tracksuit, a whistle lanyard and a clipboard. Reflective sports sunglasses are a must, as is a beard.

Nate

Nate is the easiest of them all: only a navy tracksuit and whistle are required.

ed Lasso has a European coach style. He likes to keep his wardrobe simple and stylish. He mostly wears chino pants with simple oxford shirts and long sleeve sweaters.

Rebecca Welton

As the owner of AFC Richmond, smart attire is compulsory. A fitted frock with a blazer and heels achieves Rebecca’s signature look.

Fix your hair into her perfectly coiffed updo and you’re good to go.

AFC Richmond members

For any of the football players, dress up in a blue T-shirt, white football shorts, long yellow socks and football boots. To be 100% convincing, add the Richmond logo onto them.

Keeley Jones and Roy Kent

Keeley Jones: As a model, Keeley has a huge wardrobe so you can wear anything from jeans to skirts – just make sure they are vibrant. Make sure to gel your hair up into a sleek ponytail and put on some gold accessories, particularly large hoop earrings.

Roy Kent: Similar to his girlfriend, you can wear whatever you want, but as long as its black. A black suit with a black shirt or a black jumper with a leather jacket would be suitable.
