Who is Susan Rice’s husband? Rice has recently been announced as President-elect Joe Biden’s pick for White House domestic policy council leader, which sparked the public’s curiosity about her personal life and career.

Meet Susan Rice’s husband, former ABC News producer Ian Cameron

Susan Rice married former ABC News executive producer Ian Officer Cameron on 12 September, 1992. Cameron hails from Victoria, British Columbia. However, the couple were married by Episcopal ceremony at a St Albans School chapel.

At the time of their marriage, Mr Cameron was a producer for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, based in Toronto.

He graduated from Stanford before travelling to the UK to complete a master’s degree in international relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

He has also worked as executive producer for the American Broadcasting Company’s news division (ABC News).

Mr Cameron’s father, Newton Cameron, owned the Victoria Plywood Company, a lumber company in Victoria.

According to her Biography profile, Susan Rice and husband Ian Cameron have two children and currently live in Washington, D.C.

Rice’s son, John David Rice-Cameron, is a staunch Republican and Trump supporter. At Stanford College, he served as the president of the Stanford College Republicans, and regularly held “Change My Mind” events to promote conservative viewpoints.

Why was Rice’s appointment the ‘most surprising’?

The Financial Times’ report on the appointment described Biden’s choice as “the most surprising of a series of cabinet picks” unveiled on Thursday.

Because the White House position doesn’t require Senate confirmation, Ms Rice does not have to campaign for the position. Biden’s choice in this regard might have something to do with the fact that Rice is “unpopular with Republicans”.

Next year, Ms Rice will oversee president-elect Joe Biden’s “build back better” platform. The aim of the platform is to ensure sustainable recovery of the US jobs market.

A Biden transition team official told FT: “Rice knows government inside and out and she is the best person to do this job.”

Ms Rice competed with VP-elect Kamala Harris for the position of Vice President, but lost.

Rice joined Netflix’s board of directors in March 2018, but has announced she will be stepping down from the role in time to join the Biden administration on 20 January 2021.
