Adults who grew up watching Steve Burns on Blue’s Clues have always wondered why he left so abruptly in 2002. Some fans wondered whether he had gone to jail or turned to drugs. However, the former Nickelodeon host has taken to Twitter on the 25th anniversary of the show to share a heartfelt message to his fans and reveal exactly why he left.
Meet the former Blue’s Clues host
Steve Burns was born on 9 October 1973 in Boyertown, Pennyslvania, and is now 47 years old. While he is most well known for his work as a host on Nickelodeon, he has also worked as a musician, producer, actor and director.
Burns hosted Blue’s Clues from its inception in 1996 to 2002, when he left the show. The programme followed an animated blue-spotted dog called Blue as she leaves clues for viewers to figure out.
As one of the highest-rated shows for young children in America, Steve Burns quickly became a household name. He was even nominated for a Daytime Emmy in 2001.

Burns played in many bands while in high school, including Morrissey pastiche The Ivys. However, he has gone on to take music more seriously and releases tracks with Steven Drozd under the band name STEVENSTEVEN – most recently an “adult-friendly, psychedelic rock children’s album” in 2017.
He has also kept one foot in the acting world with a cameo appearance on CBS’ Young Sheldon as a Star Trek enthusiast, and is even heading back to appear in the Blue’s Clues & You! film currently in post-production.
Some Twitter users have even shared images of an incredible home conversion he completed after leaving the Nickelodeon show.
