Emilie, was married to the late Zbigniew Brzezinski, who served as national security adviser for 39th US president Jimmy Carter. While she became acquainted with politicians and diplomats through her husband, Emilie’s true passion was art.
She began creating art in the 1970s, experimenting with a variety of media before finding her chosen medium focusing on felled trees. Her work has been exhibited around the world in gallery and museum installations in the US as well as internationally.
For many years Emilie created her sculptures in her studio in McLean, Virginia. She also lived in McLean until a few years ago. The McLean Project Of The Arts honoured the sculptor last year.

Reminiscing on a past conversation with her mother, she explained: “When I asked her whether she identified most as an artist, mother or wife, she smiled and said ‘I’m all things at once.'”
