It has been a whopping 22 years since Malcolm in the Middle first hit our screens and fans are keen to know what the cast is up to nowadays – some of the actors went on to have incredible careers whilst others have encountered their fair share of tragedies.

The Wilkerson clan felt like our extended family as we religiously tuned into the American sitcom which is still being enjoyed by devoted fans today.

We met Malcolm’s mum Lois, father Hal, his elder brother Francis, and youngest sibling Dewey, and not forget the prankster, Reese.

Since the show stopped airing in May 2006, a lot of time has passed, so let’s have a catch-up with the cast.

Malcolm In The Middle cast now

Jane Kaczmarek as Lois Wilkerson

Lois had four boys and a dependant husband on her hands, meaning she spent most of her time trying to control them whilst juggling her drugstore job.

Jane Kaczmarek has a wealth of credits following her comedic role of Lois including Law & Order, Mary in Wolves at the Door, Frasier and Mixed-ish. However, she also enjoys theatre and it appears to be her preference.

She and her ex-husband, fellow actor Bradley Whitford, have three children together but divorced in 2010 after 17 years of marriage.

Frankie Muniz as Malcolm

Frankie Muniz’s character would often break the fourth wall and speak to viewers, making us feel even more inside his genius world. Malcolm was the nerd who struggled to fit in at school. Whilst he was part of the Krelboynes clan, he truly could get up to some mischief.

Following his breakout role, he went on to play the lead role in the Agent Cody Banks movies and became a voice actor. Frankie then made a massive career change and became a professional race car driver.

By 2007 he was competing in the whole of the 12-race season of the Champ Car Atlantic series. Muniz did very well and finished in 22nd place out of the whole race. In 2008 he finished in 11th place and the next season he finished in the top 10 for every single race.

Sadly, Frankie is now unable to remember his role in Malcolm In The Middle as in 2012 at just 26 years old he suffered a mini-stroke and then suffered a second one in 2013.

During his time as a contestant on the 25th season of Dancing With The Stars in 2017, he revealed “I’m not actually sure how my memory loss started. I have had nine concussions and I’ve had a fair amount of mini-strokes.” according to Men’s Health.

Frankie married his long-term girlfriend Paige Price in 2020 with whom he resides in Scottsdale, Arizona. They welcomed their baby boy, Mauz, in March 2021.

Erik Per Sullivan as Dewey Wilkerson

Dewey was the baby of the family which often meant he got the brunt of his older brothers’ pranks.

What you may not know about Sullivan is that he has a first-degree black belt in taekwondo and he also became the voice of Sheldon in Finding Nero. However, after his last acting credit in 2010, Sullivan has remained pretty MIA.

It appears he has instead pursued education and studied at both the University of Southern California in 2009 and the University College Dublin. In June 2020, Sullivan shared on Instagram that he had received a James Joyce award while attending University in Ireland.

Justin Berfield as Reese

Justin Berfield played the second-oldest brother Reese and following the end of the show, he dived into behind-the-camera work.

In 2010, Berfield became the Chief Creative Officer of Virgin Produced, which is a film and TV production company owned by The Virgin Group. He is also an executive producer for the ABC series Muscle Shoals and is credited as a producer on the 2022 reality show Relatively Famous: Ranch Rules.

Justin married longtime-girlfriend Liza in 2017 and they welcomed a baby girl in 2020. The family gets involved in a lot of charity work and enjoys helping others.

Bryan Cranston as Hal

Bryan Cranston has become a household name since playing the hilarious father of the family, Hal. The actor is now most well-known for playing the main role in Breaking Bad as Walter White, which he went on to win multiple Emmys for his portrayal in the series. Cranston has also starred in films such as Saving Private Ryan, Argo and Godzilla.

Following his role as Hal, Cranston had a go behind the camera at directing episodes of Malcolm in the Middle, Breaking Bad, Modern Family and The Office. Bryan also wrote and produced the crime drama series Sneaky Pete and the comedy show The Dangerous Book for Boys.

Christopher Masterson as Francis

The eldest brother of the family, Francis, was arguably the naughtiest and was even sent away to military school. His character was seen a lot less than the rest of the family but Masterson certainly left an imprint on audiences.

Following the end of the show, Masterson has appeared in films such as Intellectual Property, Scary Movie 2, Wuthering Heights and Beneath The Leaves. He then decided to delve into the music industry and has since become a full-time DJ with the stage name DJ Chris Kennedy.

Masterson dated fellow actor Laura Prepon from 1999 to 2007. However, he then went on to marry actor Yoland Pecoraro in 2019 and the two welcomed a baby girl in April 2021.
