Who is the actor who plays Mal in Shadow And Bone? Shadow And Bone was released on Netflix today Friday 23 April 2021. As fans watch the series, others have wondered more about the shows cast including the actor behind Malyen Oretsev.

Who is the actor who plays Mal in Shadow And Bone?

Malyen Oretsev, better known as Mal on Netflix’s Shadow And Bone is played by 23 year old actor and model Archie Renaux.

His character is one of the main roles within the series as he supports orphan Alina Starkov played by Jessie Mei Li with her unique power.

Ahead of Shadow And Bone debut on Netflix, Renaux opened up on how his role “challenged” him.

During an interview with Seventeen, he explained: “Playing a lead character in this story, you really have to help carry that narrative.”

Renaux later added: “But being able to tell the story through the character is hugely important. As an audience member, you want to watch things where you can really buy into the characters and fall in love with them.”


Shadow And Bone was added to the Netflix catalogue today Friday, 23 April 2021. Since the release, Renaux has taken to Twitter to thank fans for their support. He wrote: “So happy that I’m seeing such positive reviews of shadow and bone.

“Everyone that worked on this show is so passionate about it and we are so happy our hard work is being enjoyed! SOOOOOO PROUD.”

What other TV shows and films has Archie Renaux been in?

While Shadow And Bone could see the actor playing Mal, Archie Renaux, become a household name, he first started his career on screen in 2017 in the short film Market Road.

Two years later, he went on to feature in BBC series Gold Digger alongside fellow Shadow and Bone’s actor Ben Barnes.

More recently, Renaux has branched into film, and was a part of the 2020 drama Body Of Water. His latest film, Voyagers, which was released earlier this month, sees Renaux join some well-known names, including Colin Farrell, Finn Whitehead and Lily-Rose Depp.
