Friday the 13th is known to be an unlucky day and for General Hospital star Kelly Monaco it certainly lived up to its name – her home went up in flames.
Monaco told TMZ that although she’s been part of some “pretty wild stories on set”, none of the scripts compare with “living through a massive fire” at her home.
Kelly has appeared on soap operas for 22 years playing all sorts of dramatic storylines. However, the drama crept into Monaco’s life recently as she opened up about a tragic incident that happened at her home last weekend.

General Hospital star Kelly Monaco escapes fire
Kelly Monaco woke up late Friday morning to a fire in the front yard of her Sherman Oaks home in Los Angeles as reported by TMZ. Much of the house became engulfed by flames and, following an investigation, it was discovered a cigarette butt thrown on to waste ground next to the property caused the blaze.
Arson investigators looked at security footage and don’t believe the fire was started intentionally. However, the blaze has caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages to the property and it won’t be habitable for quite a while.
Monaco escaped her home unharmed and had one message for fans since being confronted with the house fire: “Something as little as a cigarette butt can cause casualties and devastation.” The caution message comes after TMZ shared a video of firemen tackling the blaze, with multiple engines on the scene. Monaco can be seen and heard on the video confirming it is her house that has been engulfed by flames.

Fans send love to Kelly Monaco
GH executive producer Frank Valentini recently tweeted Kelly Monaco “is on fire today”, referring to her performance as Sam McCall. However, fans can’t help but relate it to the very real fire that happened at her home.
Kelly has a long history in Port Charles, she has been playing Sam since 2003. However, fans are worried that due to the incident and having to sort out renovating her house, she may leave GH briefly. It wouldn’t be the first time Monaco has left the canvas, previously taking time off the show in February 2022 and August 2020.
Many General Hospital fans took to Twitter to share their love and support for Monaco over the incident:
