GH’s Kelly Monaco celebrates big birthday and shares gratitude for support

It has been a tough couple of weeks for General Hospital star Kelly Monaco. She recently escaped a house fire after a cigarette butt caused a blaze that engulfed her home. Hopefully the soap star’s spirits have been lifted as she celebrated her birthday this week.

Monaco told TMZ that although she’s been part of some “pretty wild stories on set”, none of the scripts compare with “living through a massive fire” at her home.

The star is best known for playing Sam Morgan on General Hospital and Livvie Locke/Tess Ramsey on Port Charles. Kelly has appeared in soap operas for 22 years and in all sorts of dramatic storylines. However, she put the drama on hold to share her gratitude towards her fans and to celebrate her birthday bash.

GH’s Kelly Monaco celebrates big birthday

Kelly Marie Monaco was born on 23 May 1976 meaning this week she turned 46 years old.

She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Albert “Al” and Carmina Monaco, and is the middle child of her four sisters; Christine, Marissa, Carmina and Amber. The family moved to the Poconos where Monaco caught the bug for acting while attending a drama class at Pocono Mountain High School. After high school, she worked as a lifeguard and attended Northampton Community College for two years.

The actor doesn’t have a massive presence on social media but on her birthday she reached out to her fans to thank them for their messages. Fans had flooded her platforms wishing her a very happy birthday and Monaco took to Twitter to say thank you.

“I’m overwhelmed with the amount of love and kindness that was shared today,” wrote Monaco. “I’m most proud of bringing this eclectic group of people together… When we support each other, great things happen. Thank you so much for putting a smile on my face!”

Kelly Monaco’s career explored

After featuring in adult magazine Playboy, Monaco landed her first TV role playing Susan on Baywatch from 1997 to 1998. Between 1999 and 2003, she starred in ABC’s Port Charles as Olivia “Livvie” Locke and Liv’s doppelganger Tess Ramsey. That same year she joined the cast of GH in the role of Sam McCall, which has earned her a Daytime Emmy nomination.

Monaco also won the first season of reality dancing competition Dancing With The Stars in 2005. During her second appearance on the show, she placed third.

Over in Port Charles, things are going surprisingly well for Sam at the moment. Her relationship is certainly blossoming with Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) and GH fans are happy to see it!
