Kaley Cuoco reveals The Big Bang Theory scene which sparked real romance

Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki’s chemistry as Penny and Leonard was so real, that they ended up dating in real life. Not only that, but they also spoke about The Big Bang Theory scene which sparked the off-set romance between the pair.

The Big Bang Theory launched in 2007 and immediately became a hit with sitcom fans. What began as a show about science geeks living across the hall from a hot neighbor, blossomed into a real life romance off-screen.

Kaley and Johnny spoke about their relationship off-camera via The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series. And though it was obvious that something had happened between the two outside the show, the news was never confirmed.

However, it seems the show’s favorite duo actually had a relationship for two years, as Vanity Fair shared.

Kaley interpreted the role of Penny, an aspiring actress who lived across the hall from Leonard’s apartment, a genius physicist. After the character’s on-and-off relationship throughout the 12 seasons, the couple end up married and with a child.

Cuoco believes the two actors fell in love during a particular “elevator scene”. While filming The Nerdvana Annihilation episode, there is a scene of a dream sequence where Leonard saves Penny from the “elevator shaft”.

“We had to be in each others’ arms – and for quite some time because it was a bit of a stunt that we were doing. That was certainly one of that I think,” Johnny explained. Kaley interrupted and said: “I think we fell a little in love in that elevator shaft.”

Johnny confessed the episode was a “massive turning point” where both knew that their feelings for each other were inevitable.

All eyes on Galecki – “There was chemistry”

Despite their chemistry on and off-screen, both Kaley and Johnny were in relationships at the time. Cuoco said she had a “big crush” on the actor and wasn’t even hiding it.

“I was so not even hiding it,” she confessed. “He has such a swagger. We were both dating people at the time, but I only had eyes for Johnny.”

She continued: “Then, when I found out he had eyes for me too, I was like, Uh-oh, this is going to be trouble.”

The co-stars kept their relationship under wraps and dated between 2008 and 2010 in the early seasons of the show.

A close friendship

Despite the two having gone their separate ways, the actors remained very close friends. Galecki explained Cuoco wanted to make their relationship public, while he wanted to be more private. They even considered getting married.

However, the two ended up ending their romance amicably, though their characters ended up having their endgame momentum.

Kaley revealed: “Johnny and I got so close through the show and our experiences. There was such a comfort level, and he was always so supportive of me.”

“We would almost finish each other’s sentences,” she continued. “We knew each other’s characters so well, but he was just constantly a steadfast person in my life, on that show, on that set.
