As Netflix confirms the central cast of their upcoming Avatar live-action adaptation, we explore the age of leading actor Ian Ousley.
On 12 August 2021, the four leading cast members of Avatar: The Last Airbender were revealed. Taking on the roles of Aang, Katara, Sokka and Zuko respectively are Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio Tarbell, Ian Ousley, and Dallas Liu.
As the characters are aged between 12 and 16 years old in the original series – although Aang is technically 112 – fans have been curious as to the real ages of the actors taking on these roles. Let’s take a look.
Ian Ousley’s age revealed
Ian Ousley is currently 19 years old.
Celebrating his 19th birthday, Ian recently took to Instagram to write: “a boy lost in an alley moves to France to find happieness and when he finds out France is stupid and weird he goes back to the alley, he throws his dreams in the trash, to turn 19 and settle for this group of friends <\3 (that’s right i’m 19 today baby yee haw)”
He was born on 28 March 2002. This means that Ian Ousley is an Aries.

What about the other cast member’s ages?
Given that the characters in the original Avatar series are young, Netflix have appropriately cast younger actors.
The youngest cast member signed on to star in the upcoming adaptation is its lead, Gordon Cormier. Gordon is currently 12 years old.
Ian Ousley and Dallas Liu are the eldest central characters, as they are in the original series. There are likely to be adults cast in the live-action show, as Uncle Iroh and Fire Lord Ozai will surely appear.

How old is Sokka in Avatar?
When we start the series, Sokka is 15 years old. It is likely that he is to be of a similar age when the Netflix series commences.
This means that Ian Ousley is appropriately aged for the character. Jackson Rathbone (Twilight) was cast as Sokka in M Night Shyamalan’s 2010 adaptation, The Last Airbender. At the time of filming, Rathbone was around 25 years old. Ousley appears to be a much more fitting choice.
