General Hospital cast members have been doing all they can to share support for Jack and Kristina Wagner following the death of their son Harrison.
The Sun reports Harrison was found dead in a Los Angeles parking lot on 6 June at just 27 years old. The LA County Medical Examiner told the publication Harrison was pronounced dead at the scene at 5.14am local time.
Wagner endured a long-running struggle with addiction, which his father previously opened up about on Twitter: “I fear for my youngest son’s safety. Harrison has struggled with drugs and alcohol just as I did when I was younger.”
Here’s how the General Hospital cast shared their condolences to the Wagner family.
Jack and Kristina Wagner launch scholarship in son’s name
Jack, 62, and ex-wife Kristina, 59, haven’t publicly spoken about the sudden passing of their son. However, they have launched a scholarship fund in Harrison’s memory at the New Life House Recovery Community, a well-known rehabilitation program.
After the announcement of the fund, the organization shared: “We are heartbroken he ultimately lost his battle with addiction and we hope Harrison’s memory will live on through this scholarship and help other young men get help for their addiction that would not otherwise be able to afford it.”
The General Hospital actors, who met on the set of the soap, split in 2006 after more than 13 years of marriage. They share another son, Peter, who is 31 years old and is Harrison’s older brother. Peter shared a message dedicated to Harrison on his Instagram along with a series of heartfelt photos.
Jack is also the father to a daughter, Kerry, 34, from a previous relationship although it has been reported he had no idea she was his daughter for more than two decades. TMZ reported his daughter was conceived during a short fling in the 1980s but was given up for adoption soon after she was born.
GH cast attends Harrison Wagner’s funeral to show support
Although the Wagners weren’t at the 49th annual Daytime Emmy Awards, their fellow General Hospital cast shared how they have supported them throughout this difficult time.
Kelly Thiebaud told Entertainment Tonight members of the General Hospital cast and crew had attended Harrison’s funeral earlier this month. Co-star Nancy Lee Grahn also told ET she had been in contact with Kristin since the tragedy and called her “remarkably strong” and “an exemplary mother”. Grahn is a friend of the Wagners and explained: “Having a sоn with an addictiоn was very difficult.”
Kelly Monaco has personally opened up about how supportive the GH team has been as she told ET: “I had a similar experience in November with my best friend and the GH cast was amazing.
“It’s a family, and the same grace has been extended to Kristina and Jack. I have chills talking about it. My heart goes out to them because I know exactly what they’re feeling. It’s tragic.”
Another of Kristina’s co-stars, Finola Hughes, shared her support via Instagram on 13 June. “In honour of my beautiful friend @kristinawagnr dear son, Harrison, @jackwagnerofficial and Kristina have put together a foundation to help others battling addiction. In loving memory of their son ❤️.”
