Following HBO Max’s recent release of The Way Down, US dietician Gwen Shamblin’s hair has sparked Twitter confusion as viewers react to her volumised up-do on the new docuseries.
The evolution of Gwen Shamblin’s hair

On 29 May 2021, the American author tragically lost her life in a plane crash in Smyrna, Tennessee.
The docuseries on her life, however, seems to be more interested in her hairstyle. Ironically opposed to the title of the show, Shamblin’s hair seems to have been constantly styled upwards, especially towards the end of her career.
Many describe the evolution of her hair and, as her fame and church community grew, so did the hairstyle.
In the 1990s, Gwen Shamblin’s hair seemed to have been naturally styled, with her short blonde strands straightened inwards to frame her face.
From that point onwards, however, her hair began to gain height.
Shamblin’s hair expansion eventually led to her final style – a volumised up-do with immense height positioned directly on top of her head.
A Twitter user shared a collection of images displaying the contrast between her developing hairstyles.
Twitter viewers respond with confusion
After watching the docuseries, viewers soon took to Twitter with questions surrounding Gwen Shamblin’s hairstyle.
