The final twelve episodes of season 7 were released to Netflix on 29 April 2022.
Coming off the back of their money laundering shenanigans, Grace and Frankie enter another criminal world in the final season as they start smuggling Bonida. But is it a real drug?
***WARNING*** If you have yet to see Grace and Frankie season 7, plot details are to be discussed throughout the article.
Grace and Frankie enter the world of drug smuggling
The eighth episode of Grace and Frankie (“The Bonida Bandidas”) sees the two titular women attempt to smuggle drugs out of Mexico.
The previous episode concluded with Grace (Fonda) finding Frankie’s (Tomlin) stash of Bonida prescriptions, or a “s***load of Bonida prescription slips,” as Grace exclaims. After returning to Walden Villas, Frankie realises that many of the elderly residents are in need of Bonida prescriptions.
In an attempt to get the Walden Villas residents their medication, Grace and Frankie head to Mexico to smuggle Bonida across the border. As Frankie says in episode 7: “It may be drug smuggling but it’s a righteous smuggle.”

Is Bonida a real drug?
With the show centring on the exploits of two women in their seventies, there is certainly a lot of medical jargon which might not resonate with younger audiences. If you were curious about the medication mentioned in Grace and Frankie, then here’s what you need to know.
While Bonida isn’t a real drug, there is a drug called Boniva. Boniva is used to prevent and treat certain types of bone loss (osteoporosis), as reported by WebMD.
It could be that this is the medication they are alluding to in Grace and Frankie, given that the medications are both used to treat bone loss.

Grace and Frankie become the “Bonida Bandidas”
Grace and Frankie make it to Mexico to meet Dr. Ramirez, who prescribes Bonida for Arlene (Marsha Mason). A little case of identity theft sabotages the Bonida Bandidas’ plan, as Dr. Ramirez’s wife alerts border patrol to the pair.
Although Grace successfully makes it across the border, Bonida in tow, things aren’t as smooth for Frankie, who ends up (unwittingly) partaking in another drug smuggling operation.
