Korean survival drama Squid Game seems to have been a hit following its release on Netflix last Friday (17 September). Some fans have since wondered more about the actors behind the characters featured throughout the series. We take a look at the career of the actor behind Squid Game’s Seong Gi-Hun.
Who is Seong Gi-Hun in Netflix’s The Squid Game?
Seong Gi-Hun is one of 456 contestants who participate in The Squid Game, which offers a large money prize to the final player.
Before entering the survival competition, the audience learns Gi-Hun is a divorced gambling addict who needs money to gain custody of his daughter, who is set to move to America with her mother and stepfather.
Gi-Hun, who makes a living through his job as a chauffeur, later chooses to risk everything and enter the competition to win the money for his family after he hears his elderly mother, who he lives with, needs surgery.

Who is the actor behind Squid Game’s Seong Gi-Hun?
Squid Game’s Seong Gi-Hun is played by South Korean actor Lee Jung-Jae who has appeared in roles across both TV and film.
Before going into acting, Jung-Jae is said to have initially pursued a career in modelling in the early 1990s. He later went on to make his on-screen debut in the 1994 film The Young Man.
Jung-Jae has since become an award-winning actor and, during his career, has won 14 awards and has been nominated for a further 17 accolades.

Some of Lee Jung-Jae most notable roles are Prince Suyang in The Face Reader, Lee Ja-Sung in New World, and Yeom Seok-Jin in Assassination.
Before his appearance in Netflix’s The Squid Game, his most recent credits include films Deliver Us From Evil, Lakewood Plaza Turbo and TV series Cheif Of Staff.
