If you’ve started watching Heartstopper on Netflix, you’ve probably noticed Charlie’s iconic “gay panic” wallpaper.

The new Netflix series set in an all-boys grammar school follows openly gay student Charlie Spring fall for his new rugby player friend Nick Nelson.

Throughout the show, audiences see close up shots of Charlie’s phone as the two hit it off outside school. The character’s wallpaper has since caught the attention of fans on social media.

Fans can’t get over Charlie’s ‘gay panic’ wallpaper in Heartstopper

Heartstopper audiences will probably be familiar with Charlie’s iconic “gay panic” wallpaper, which is seen in close-up shots across the new Netflix series.

For those who missed it, the wallpaper features the phase “gay panic” over the top of a peach coloured background.

The phone background seems to have caught the attention of fans on Twitter, as many have reacted to its feature on the micro-blogging site:

It has a tie to the Heartstopper graphic novel

As fans will know, the series is based on a graphic novel series by author Alice Oseman.

In the illustrated books, Charlie’s phone wallpaper featured a NASA inspired wallpaper which, replaced “NASA” with “GAY.”

As fans notice the “gay panic” wallpaper on Charlie’s phone in the Netflix series, others are also remembering the design featured in the novel on social media:

Some may recognise that the phrase “gay panic” also features in volume 2 of the Heartstopper novels. A similar phrase also features in episode 4 as Nick exclaims: “honestly, I’m having a proper full-on gay crisis.”
