Flowers in the Attic returns to screens with a brand new prequel on Lifetime and the Foxworth family are as messy as ever.

Saturday night (9 July 2022) saw Lifetime viewers transported to Foxworth Hall, as the first of a four-part adaptation of Flowers in the Attic premiered. This time, viewers are following Olivia Foxworth (Jemima Rooper) in her younger years, to learn how she came to be the cunning grandmother many hated from V.C. Andrews’ 1979 Gothic novel of the same name.

As Lifetime takes us back to Olivia’s younger years married to Malcolm Foxworth (Max Irons), whose inappropriate dalliances have created quite the family tree.

To keep you in the loop with which Foxworths are related to one another, we have a family tree ready to help. Here’s what you need to know about the Flowers in the Attic family.

***SPOILER WARNING*** Details of the first episode of Flowers in the Attic: The Origin is to be discussed throughout the piece.

The Foxworth family tree explored

Evidently, viewers of Flowers in the Attic: The Origin who were new to the story were surprised by the familial threads being drawn in episode 1. It didn’t take too long for images of the Foxworth family tree to be posted online to help clarify which characters are related to one another.

Take a look at a family tree created for a previous adaptation of Flowers in the Attic:

This family tree shows that Malcolm is the son of Garland and Corinne Foxworth Sr.

Malcolm had a relationship with Alicia, his stepmother, and together they share a child Corinne Foxworth Jr. Garland also shares a child with his second wife Alicia, Christopher Foxworth Sr.

Malcolm and Olivia Foxworth share two sons together, Malcolm Jr. and Joel.

Let’s just say things are looking pretty messy from where we’re standing…

Lifetime viewers react to the messy Foxworths in Flowers in the Attic

The happenings at Foxworth Hall immediately shocked many viewers, the majority of whom have strong words to say about Malcolm, the patriarch.

One viewer tweeted after watching the first episode of Flowers in the Attic: The Origin: “This is Jerry Springer of the 1900s.”

Another jokingly tweeted: “What in the Thomas Jefferson is going on?”

Flowers in the Attic: The Origin gives Olivia the backstory she deserves

If you’ve read any of V.C. Andrews’ novels or seen previous adaptations of Flowers in the Attic, you will know that Olivia Foxworth is one of the series’ most hated characters. But the Lifetime prequel finally gives viewers some context and a backstory which shines a light on her character’s descent into cruelty.

One of the biggest revelations came in Flowers in the Attic: The Origin that Corinne Jr. is not Olivia Foxworth’s biological daughter, but Malcolm’s step-mother Alicia’s.

Viewers are also presented with an independent Olivia who frequently goes up against the malicious Malcolm, indisputably the prequel’s villain.
