Born Elias Theodosopoulos in 1966, Mandylor is an Australian film and television actor. His brother, Costas, is also an actor.
Besides playing “Fake Joey” in season 6 episode 17 of Friends (more below), Louis Mandylor has held down some major parts over the years.
He is perhaps most famous for playing Nick Portokalos in My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) and its sequel, 14 years later.
But he also appeared in Rambo: Last Blood (2019), The Debt Collector (2018) and Jean-Claude Van Damme’s The Quest (1996), starring Jude Law.
How the real Joey lost a ‘huge chunk of meat’ for the part
Obviously, as we all know, Matt LeBlanc beat Louis Mandylor to the inimitable part of Joey Tribbiani.
But it wasn’t without tribulation.

LeBlanc revealed during the Friends reunion that, the night before his callback audition, he lost a “huge chunk of meat” from his nose when he “fell face first into the toilet”.
It didn’t hold back his chances, however. When he arrived for the callback, he “told the truth and got the job”.
But Louis Mandylor made it into Friends in the end, as ‘Fake Joey’
Louis Mandylor made it onto the Friends set eventually, for the season 6 episode The One With Unagi.
In the episode, Joey hires an actor – Carl – to be his “identical twin for a medical research project”.

He tells Monica and Chandler, “I know it sounds crazy but I think it might work”. But Carl’s acting isn’t up to scratch.
Joey blames Carl for losing a “big Minute Maid commercial a couple years ago”, and bemoans, “we were supposed to be brothers but he messed it up”.
