Can you stay at The Great British Bake Off hotel? Inside Down Hall Hotel and Spa

The new series of The Great British Bake Off starts tonight, 22 September. As you tune in, you may find yourself looking in awe at the beautiful estate and the surrounding gardens where the famous tent is now pitched. The 2020 series chose a new location – Down Hall Hotel and Spa in Essex – and fans are wondering, can you stay at The Great British Bake Off hotel?

Where was Bake Off 2020 filmed?

This series was filmed at the stunning Down Hall Hotel and Spa in Essex. Due to the complications of filming during the coronavirus pandemic, the whole cast and crew created their own bubble, living and working together for the entire shoot. This means that this series is bound to be the tightest-knit group of contestants we’ve ever seen.

Yes! The hotel boasts 98 bedrooms that “are all individually designed to reflect the grandeur, elegance and character of this historic property”. This is certainly a grand location for a holiday staycation this September. With neighbours France and Spain incurring two week quarantines, perhaps now is the time to explore what the UK has to offer.

The Down Hall hotel and Spa reopened on 21 August with increased covid measures including face masks being mandatory in public areas. Rooms will be left vacant for 48 hours between guests, buffets will now be plated menus and the beauticians in the spa will wear protective masks too.

If you want to fulill your Bake Off cake cravings, the hotel offers afternoon tea with views of the estate’s beautiful gardens. Down Hall also has a modern English menu at its restaurant, the Grill Room, made with ingredients from the estate’s own vegetable garden. This sounds like foodie heaven!

While staying at the hotel, guests can also enjoy the impressive Eden Spa, offering facials and full-body pampering, manicures, pedicures and other beauty treatments.

Relaxation is top on the agenda at this hotel and will be a well-needed break from work-stress and the constantly evolving coronavirus situation. Bonus – now you can live the Bake Off experience for yourself.
