What is the Mob Wife aesthetic?
Every few months, a new trend emerges that covers everything including makeup, fashion, decor and general attitude. The latest is the Mob Wife aesthetic.
The basis of any successful Mob Wife look is undoubtedly fierce, harshly-cut makeup. It doesnt need to be perfect, in fact, the perfect Mob Wife makeup is quite the opposite. Dark smokey eyes, over-lined lips and swatches of burgundy are popular choices. Where hair is considered, bigger is always better.
The mob wife aesthetic is all about drama, an expert from Zalando told The Telegraph. It dips into several trends observed on the spring 2024 catwalks including faux fur, animal print, and underwear as outerwear. It’s the antithesis of minimalism.
In terms of fashion, creators are drawing inspiration from shows like The Sopranos where characters were known to kill both their enemies and their fashion. Big fur coats (faux, of course) and golden hoops are definitely at the top of any well-executed Mob Wife.
Leather trousers and shirts are also a solid choice, according to content creators. Its also worth noting that any footwear you might normally deem too much is totally in line with the Mob Wife vibe.
Why is it dividing opinion?
Due to the very obvious link to the world of organised crime, the Mob Wife aesthetic has drawn some criticism for glamorising that brutal world.
The term of a mob wife literally means youre the partner of someone in organised crime, explained Annalise Wood on her YouTube channel. There is also the argument of cultural appropriation as the trend is heavily inspired by American-Italian culture.
Annalise continued: My opinion is that this trend is capitalism at its finest. I mean, weve just had everyone obsessed with the clean girl aesthetic. Everyones gone out and bought their quiet luxury pieces, their minimalist pieces and now were flipping it and you have to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe.
A former Mob Wife spoke out about the trend
The growing trend caught the attention of Drita Davanzo, who starred in the VH1 reality series Mob Wives from 2011 to 2016. Drita is also married to alleged crime family boss Lee DAvanzo, who is currently in prison.
Taking to her own TikTok page, Drita posted a series of moments from her time on the show alongside the caption: This is not just a look, its a lifestyle,
