‘This Content Is Not Available’ GIF floods Instagram as memes disappear
A GIF that says ‘This Content Is Not Available’ has been spotted all over Instagram this week as a number of memes appear to have been deleted.
Internet users thought it was a prank at first, but the message is replacing a number of previously posted GIFs that have disappeared from the platform.

‘This Content Is Not Available’ GIF
The GIF is appearing all over Instagram comments and consists of a black background with white lettering that says: “This content is not available.”
Multicolored confetti swirls around behind the text and it’s started appearing on other social media platforms including Twitter/X too.
The message means that the GIF which was posted is not on the site anymore, any many are speculating this is because it has been deleted.
Alternatively, it could be an error within the GIPHY site which is causing certain GIFs to not show up properly.
GRV Media and The Focus have reached out to GIPHY for comment.
Instagram users thought it was a prank
Many thought the black GIF was a new meme trend where people were trying to prank others on social media.
One person wrote on Reddit: “I thought it was a meme honestly =- but I looked for the GIF and I realised it wasnt.”
“Wait its NOT a joke? Damn,” said another.
A third person added: “I was wondering if it was a new meme or something, but then I checked older post and saw that wasnt a meme.”
“But wait, I thought it was a trend!” someone else added.

GIPHY doesn’t allow certain content
GIPHY has a strict set of Community Guidelines which outline the types of content that are not permitted on the platform.
“GIPHY strives to provide positive experiences for our users, and to achieve that goal we do not permit certain types of content or channels,” it says.
Some themes that are forbidden include explicit nudity, real violence, self-harm, terrorism, harassment and violence against animals.
They regularly moderate content through human moderation, image matching, and machine learning to identify content that violates the Community Guidelines.
Any content that does not comply can be deleted, which is certainly a possible cause for the “This content is not available” GIF.
