Sophie Ellis-Bextor reacts as UMG remove her Saltburn-famous hit from TikTok

Sophie Ellis-Bextor has said it was nice while it lasted after her hit Saltburn song was removed from TikTok by UMG.

TikTok might look like a very different place in the coming weeks as hundreds of artists are pulled from the platform. While that still leaves a plethora of other sounds, fans are concerned about the future of the platform and the trends that spring from it.

Murder on the Dancefloor has been murdered

After being featured in Saltburn, Sophie Ellis-Bextors Murder on the Dancefloor hit the charts once again as most of the world struggled to get it out of their heads. Unfortunately, the song has now been removed from TikTok following Universal Music Groups controversial decision.

So my song has gone from TikTok but look where I was, she said, pointing to her placement at number one on the chart. Would you like a little acapella?

Sophie continued to sing a bar or two of her hit song, before adding: It was nice while it lasted. Thanks for all the lovely TikToks.

The song first hit the charts way back in 2001 as part of Sophies first studio album, Read My Lips. Interest in the song skyrocketed at the end of last year after it was included in Saltburn starring Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, and Rosamund Pike.

Why did UMG remove songs from TikTok?

Following failed negotiations with TikTok, Universal Music Group pulled all of its music from the platform at the end of January.

In our contract renewal discussions, we have been pressing them on three critical issuesappropriate compensation for our artists and songwriters, protecting human artists from the harmful effects of AI, and online safety for TikToks users, UMG said while also accusing the social media company of bullying them.

TikTok later hit back with: Despite Universals false narrative and rhetoric, the fact is they have chosen to walk away from the powerful support of a platform with well over a billion users that serves as a free promotional and discovery vehicle for their talent.

A long list of artists are in the process of being removed from the platform including Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Olivia Rodrigo, Drake, and SZA.And of course, Sophie Ellis-Bextor!
