Lyrics to TikTok’s ‘North Sea Song’ revealed as Hoist The Colors takes over

Videos about the ‘treacherous’ North Sea are still fascinating people on TikTok, but many are wondering what the song’s lyrics actually say.

Viral clips show the huge waves and oil rig workers who live out at sea for months on end, and the trend is set to a scary-sounding piece of music called Hoist The Colors.

TikTok’s ‘North Sea Song’

The music is by German film score composer and music producer Hans Zimmer who made it for Pirates of the Caribbean.

The song first appears at the start of the third movie At World’s End and tells the story of Davy Jones and Calypso.

It’s a sea shanty known by all pirates across theSeven Seas and describes the action of hoisting up a pirate’s flag.

The lyrics were written byscreenwritersTed Elliott and Terry Rossio with the assistance of director Gore Verbinski.

Hoist The Colors lyrics

Yo, Ho haul together, hoist the colours high
Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die
Yo, Ho haul together, hoist the colours high
Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die

The King and his men stole the queen from her bed
and bound her in her bones
The seas be ours and by the powers
Where we will…we’ll roam

Yo, Ho haul together, hoist the colours high
Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never say we die

Some men have died and some are alive
And others sail on the sea
With the keys to the cage
And the devil to pay
We lay to Fiddler’s Green!

Yo, Ho haul together, hoist the colours high
Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die

The bell has been raised from its watery grave
Do you hear its sepulchral tone?
A Call to all, pay heed to the squall
And turn your sail towards home!

Yo, Ho haul together, hoist the colours high
Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die

North Sea isn’t actually scary

The North Sea trend began towards the end of 2023, when clips depicting the body of water began taking over TikTok.

These videos claimed the sea between Great Britain, Denmark, Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and France is incredibly dangerous.

Dramatic videos show huge waves crashing onto ships, people working in terrifying conditions and oil rigs in the middle of the sea.

However, in reality, the clips are completely exaggerated and the North Sea isn’t the most treacherous body of water at all.

As explained by National Geographic, “people have been navigating these stormy waters for millennia” and sailing it is now pretty safe.

It’s actually not very stormy at all compared to other waters like the Southern Ocean where huge waves are not broken by land.
