How to do the ‘States I’ve Visited Or Lived In’ map trend on Instagram

A new map trend is taking over Instagram called ‘States I’ve Visited Or Lived In’ which reveals how well travelled you are.

‘States I’ve Visited Or Lived In’ map Instagram

The challenge is a plain white map of the United States with all 50 states marked on it. At the top, there are two headings: Visited and Lived In.

One word is in pink and the other is in blue, and you have to use the correct color to mark the states you’ve visited or lived in.

The map is being shared on Instagram Stories by people across the US, revealing how much they have actually travelled around the country.

How to do ‘States I’ve Visited or Lived In’ trend

  1. Find someone else who has done the trend
  2. Tap ‘Add Yours’ on their Instagram Story
  3. The map will automatically appear on your screen
  4. Click the three dots and choose the ‘Draw’ tool
  5. Select pink and draw a dot on states you have visited
  6. Now choose blue and mark all the ones you’ve lived in
  7. Share the post to your Instagram Story

If you can’t find someone else who has used the ‘Add Yours’ sticker, you can create your own by finding a blank states map online.

Upload it to your Story and click on the smiley face in a square at the top. There, select ‘Add Yours Templates’ and tap the map to make your own sticker.

‘Add Yours’ challenge annoys Instagram users

Social media users have been taking to Twitter/X to reveal how annoying they find the map trend.

One person wrote: “I cannot see another states Ive visited or Lived in map I just cant.”

“I am absolutely hating this ‘states Ive visited/states Ive lived in’ prompt on IG,” said another.

A third person added: “‘States Ive visited and states Ive lived in’ is a stupid Insta trend. We do not care.”

The challenge has gone viral following the release of Instagram’s new ‘Add Yours Templates’ feature which lets you add anything to a sticker.

It’s prompted many trends, including the ‘Get To Know Me’ and ‘A Little About Myself’ templates which help your followers learn more about you.
