Couples turn to adorable ‘Take a look at my girlfriend’ TikTok trend ahead of Valentine’s Day

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, couples are on the lookout for the quintessential gifts, and it seems, TikTok’s latest ‘Take a look at my girlfriend’ trend may just be what every boyfriend/girlfriend needs to shower their bae with love.

There are plenty of things for you to do this Valentine’s Day if taking part in yet another social media challenge is not your thing. Dwelling in your romantic past? A San Antonio zoo lets you name a cockroach after an ex for as little as $10. And there are several love-themed merch by Hello Kitty, Starbucks, and more to celebrate the day conventionally.

‘Take a Look At My Girlfriend trend takes over TikTok

The trend gets its name from the track of the same name by Gym Class Heroes. The romantic challenge has been around for a few weeks, although there’s a surge in participation ahead of Valentine’s Day.

TikTok users are taking part in the trend to express their love for their baes, by showing a picture of their partner, usually kept in their wallet or saved as wallpapers on their phones, before the real person appears on the screen.

The trend is adorable on several levels. One, you realize a lot of them keep cute baby pictures of their partners in their wallets all the time, and two, they love introducing their loved one to the world through the challenge.

Users of all age groups are more than happy to celebrate their love by putting their partners in the spotlight and dedicating the romantic song in the sweetest gesture.

Users flaunt their baes

The new TikTok trend is more like an appreciation post for your bae. You can’t wait to show them to the world and tease them with awkward pictures in some instances.

One user wrote: “I love this trend! Can’t wait to try it on my girlfriend.”

“I was wondering what to get my lady and this is the perfect Valentine’s Day gift,” said another.

A third comment read: “This trend is here to stay!”

Although most users are showing their partner’s pictures on phones or those kept in wallets, some have taken the challenge to another level by displaying the picture of a fictional character such as Disney Princess before revealing their partner.

One user showed Elsa’s picture on their screen before their girlfriend dressed in a similar costume showed up on the frame. Cute, isn’t it?
