Adult cousins surprising grandparents for one more sleepover is TikToks new heartwarming trend

TikToks latest trend is encouraging adult cousins to get together and surprise their grandparents with a sleepover.

The trend might just be the most wholesome one on the app yet, with grandparents calling it the best Christmas present ever as their family shows up at the door.

How the adult cousin sleepover trend started

In November, Amber Hauck and her cousins, ranging in ages from 26 to 32, showed up at their grandparents’ house in Pennsylvania. Unbeknownst to Grandma Linda and Grandpa Ronald George, they were about to host a cousin’s sleepover for the first time in years, and despite now being great-grandparents.

Hauck and her cousins spent the night playing dominoes with their grandparents and Grandpa Ronald George awoke early to make sure breakfast was made for everyone, like how he did when they were young.

After posting the video to TikTok on November 29, Hauck gained over 11 M views on her clip. She told Fox that she hoped adult cousin sleepovers would become a trend as shes aware of the impact loneliness can have on the elderly.

Sure enough, adult cousin sleepovers have swiftly become a huge trend on TikTok this festive season. Grandkids have been grouping together and showing up unannounced at their grandparents’ house while home for the holidays.

The trend has been spreading joy across the app with the wholesome reactions from grandparents seeing all their grandchildren in one place.

@ashtynkingsburys grandma said they made her entire year! by showing up to stay over and added that she couldnt wait to tell all of her friends.

Tori Haldens grandmother dubbed it the best Christmas present ever in the viral video of their adult cousin sleepover.

This trend could be doing more good than we know

The adult cousins sleepover trend on TikTok is reuniting grandchildren and grandparents, which might be something that many need. A study by AgeUK in 2019 found that 4.5 million older people claim to have felt lonely in later life.

Bonding moments between grandparents and grandchildren are important, but some studies show they could be dwindling. A study of 1,000 five to 18-year-olds found that 21 percent speak to their grandparents about how their lives were different in the past. More than half of young people have no idea what job their grandparents did before retirement.
