Marjorie Taylor Greene thinks American tax dollars shouldn’t ‘go for… Guam’
Republican politician Marjorie Taylor Greene spoke during the second day of the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando, Florida (on 27 February).
In her address, she included the US territory of Guam among a list of foreign nations she deems unworthy of receiving American tax dollars.
Greene said, “We believe our hard-earned tax dollars should just go for America. Not for, what? China, Russia, the Middle East, Guam, whatever, wherever.”
Spain ceded Guam to the US in 1899, and Guamanians are US citizens.
Twitter reacts to Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Guam blunder
Twitter quickly weighed in, with comments ranging from the instructive to the ironic.
User Anne Reed, for example, wrote matter-of-factly: “Except Guam Is Part of US, Marjorie”.
Meanwhile another user wrote that Greene thinking that Guam is a foreign country is the “funniest” thing they have heard so far this year.
Who is Marjorie Taylor Greene?
Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene is the Republican congresswoman for Georgia’s 14th district. She has held the post since earlier this year.
She has previously come under fire for displaying an anti-transgender sign outside her office, and making what the BBC called “incendiary remarks” regarding QAnon and violence against Democrats.
